Aarhus Teater - Music branding
To promote their up-coming performance "Lyden Af De Skuldre Vi Står På" Aarhus Teater came to me and my old agency Knowtheirname looking for an interesting and different way to create engagement and excitement from the public.
Aarhus Teater was built in the 1890s on the initiative of the citizens of Aarhus and is today a cultural powerhouse in the heart of Aarhus. In 2017 the theatre opened the yearly Festival, Aarhus Festuge, with the performance “Lyden Af De Skuldre Vi Står På” as part of the Aarhus Culture of Capital 2017 project. A project that featured Simon Kvamm and Marie Højlund remixing the Danish heritage of songs.
We came up with the concept of a remix competition, which would evoke and engage the electronic music environment. To dive into the universe of the performance “Lyden af De Skuldre Vi Står På” artists were invited to bring new life and energy to the old Danish hymn ‘Dejlig er jorden’ from the Danish Golden Age.
As part of the competition we created a Soundcloud-profile with original recorded sounds from the old theatre, samples made by the help of our podcast firm Akkurator. The samples were to be used as part of the remixes.
The competition created excellent content to use on social media and helped create a PR buzz around the performance and Aarhus Teater. The campaign culminated with the winner – having been selected by a strong jury consisting of Simon Kvamm and Marie Højlund – performing in the foyer on the opening day of Aarhus Festuge for the press and VIPs creating a unique event.
